As Undod we express our solidarity and support for Jamie Bevan on his stand against racism, bigotry and fascism.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Jamie has been summoned to appear in court on Friday 14th June 2019.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Supporters are welcome to attend the hearing.<\/strong><\/p>\n

On the evening of Wednesday 15th May 2019 Jamie took part in a demonstration against racism, bigotry and fascism outside a Brexit Party rally held at the Trago Mills site in his hometown, Merthyr Tudful.<\/p>\n

That evening, before the rally was able to begin, Jamie and others stood deliberately on the site’s access road to block traffic from reaching the venue. They succeeded in delaying the start time of the event, causing inconvenience to the organisers. Bevan was later arrested by police when he refused to move.<\/p>\n

The wider demonstration was organised rapidly by residents of Merthyr and surrounding areas in the days preceding the rally. Participants were volunteers from a mixture of backgrounds, including anti-racists, anti-fascists, Welsh nationalists and people who had voted remain and leave in the EU referendum of 2016.<\/p>\n

Jamie will appear at Merthyr Magistrates’ Court on Friday 14th June 2019 at 9AM to answer the charge of “obstructing a public highway”.<\/p>\n

At the hearing Jamie will be pleading guilty to this specific charge while declaring opposition to racism and fascism.<\/p>\n

Jamie said: “A large proportion of people in Merthyr were appalled to see such a rally happen in their town. The intention of my action was to declare that not everyone in Merthyr supports the toxic fascist thinking of the extreme right. We believe in the freedom to speak but that freedom comes with responsibility. Farage and his crew come to deprived areas like Merthyr because they see us as easy targets. The damage and divisions they have created in our communities are heartbreaking. We oppose racism and inequality at all levels with every means open to us.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
