As we resume our blog for election season, it is nice to receive a message of support from Leanne Wood, who has just started a small project of her own over on Substack for the Senedd election.
Today’s political Cymru deserves discussion and analysis. Changes are afoot, and narratives are being contested in all directions.
Some of us have been around on the left for a while. A long view can add depth to political analysis.
It’s worth noting in that respect that much of today’s politics is nothing new.
I hope that my experience in the Welsh political world, coupled with this long view will be able to contribute towards helping us all make some sense of the political world we are in now.
I write regularly on Facebook. I use that platform and the audience I have built there over many years to provoke, challenge, provide information, develop progressive narratives and to expose both the far right and lazy, parrot-thinking. The “anti-fans” help the engagement (I only block under extreme circumstances). The page attracts regulars posters from far right organising pages, which send their followers off to attack the voices they want to silence, often highlighting my posts or old Senedd videos.
Some of the content from Facebook deserves a wider airing with an audience who hasn’t just turned up for a fight.
So, as a trial for the election period, I’m going to write on Substack.
Some of the material will be previously posted explainers from Facebook. There will be new content too.
Those of us opposed to the far right are greater in number than them. If we can pool our collective endeavours, I am convinced we can develop a powerful and compelling narrative that is based on community, love and real independence.
I’m delighted that Undod is starting back up, because this blog will also contribute to such an endeavour. We shall be collaborating.
So if you are watching this space, why not head over to Substack and watch the space over there as well?
Ymlaen!
